Courtney Cameron is a violinist in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and is Concertmaster of Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra. While living in Iowa for three years prior to her appointment in Civic, Courtney was Principal Second Violin in the Dubuque Symphony, as well as section violinist in Des Moines Symphony, Quad City Symphony and Orchestra Iowa. Now Courtney performs additionally with the Elgin Symphony and other area groups, and she plays solo violin for memorial services and wedding ceremonies throughout Chicagoland. Besides performing, Courtney is a Private Lesson Teacher for Indian Prairie School District 204, enjoys teaching a private violin studio from her loft in Aurora and is available to teach at Downers Grove Conservatory.
Though she grew up in Rochester, NY, Courtney has been studying and performing in the Midwest since 1999: she holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Lawrence University (Appleton, WI) where she studied violin with Anton Miller, and a Master of Music degree from University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), studying under Sibbi Bernhardsson of the Pacifica Quartet. She has formerly been a member of the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, Baroque Artists of Champaign, Champaign-Urbana Symphony and has played with Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony.
Aside from a rich orchestral performing background, Courtney also performs chamber music. As first violinist of the Veritas Quartet, she received the Kimberly-Clark Foundation grant to give educational performances for school children around the Fox Valley (WI), was invited to play at the Fox Valley International Community Partnership Conference with Mikhail Gorbachev, and received the Freeman Grant to perform at the Hanoi Conservatory in Vietnam.
An experienced violin instructor, Courtney was awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of Illinois, and later built a violin studio in Iowa, where she was a teacher for the Cedar Rapids Symphony School. Courtney additionally taught the outreach programs Third Grade Strings and Fifth Grade Fiddles in the Cedar Rapids Public School District.
